Is my child olympiad-ready? A free 45-minute check
A free 45-minute check a parent can run at home with a Class 6 to 8 child: five minutes to pick the paper, thirty minutes on part of a free sample paper, ten minutes sorting the mistakes — and what the result can and cannot tell you.
You can check where your child stands in 45 minutes, for free: five minutes to choose the paper, thirty minutes on the first half of a free sample paper, and ten minutes sorting the wrong answers. The check does not predict a score. It tells you which chapters to practise next, and whether time or topics is the bigger problem.
What happens in the first five minutes?
Pick the subject your child is actually entered for, at their own class, and open a free sample paper for it. Tell your child it is a practice look, not a test, and that skipping a question is allowed.
What should my child do in the thirty minutes?
Work through the paper from the start for thirty minutes, untimed per question, and stop when the thirty minutes are up wherever they have reached. Do not help and do not hover. Note roughly how far they got: that is your first reading on pace.
How do I read the result in the last ten minutes?
Go through each wrong answer together and ask, “What was this question asking you to do?” Then put it in one of four piles: misread, slipped, ran out of time, or not met yet. Only the last pile is about the syllabus, and it is usually the smallest. The chapters in it are your practice list.
- Mostly misread or slipped: the topics are there. Practise reading the question fully before answering.
- Mostly ran out of time: the gap is pace, not knowledge. A timed paper in a week or two will tell you more.
- Mostly not met yet: start with those chapters. The SOF IMO Class 7 and SOF ISO Class 7 guides show how chapters map to each paper.
Can this check predict whether my child qualifies?
No. One half-paper on one afternoon is not evidence about an exam that has not happened, and we make no claim about ranks or qualification. What it gives you is narrower and more useful: a short list of chapters, and whether time or topics is the thing to work on.
What should we do after the check?
Practise the not-met-yet chapters first, one at a time. On OlympAI’s free plan that is a chapter note and up to 3 practice quizzes a day in the subject, with an explanation after every answer. Run the full paper, timed, two or three weeks later.
Our 30-day IMO plan and last-month science plan lay out the weeks between the two.
Free forever, every day: up to 150 practice questions (3 quizzes × 10 questions × 5 subjects), all chapter notes, full explanations, free mock papers and 20 AI tutor messages, with no card and no time limit. OlympAI PRO is there when your child wants more: timed mode like the real exam, custom tests, Hard and Olympiad-level questions, every mock paper and 10× the AI tutor time, from ₹99 a month with no autopay. A new family’s first child also gets 14 days of PRO on us when they register.
